ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Mestranol, Norethynodrel
Mestranol, Norethynodrel falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group European Mandrake interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
First things first: I really don't want you taking European mandrake at all. It's a genuinely toxic nightshade plant, and there's no safe, proven use for it. Please leave it on the shelf. With that said, here's the theory behind pairing it with your birth control pill (the mestranol and norethynodrel combo in Enovid-E).
Mandrake's compounds slow down how fast your gut moves things along. Because your pill is swallowed and absorbed through the gut, sitting there longer could let a bit more of the hormones soak in. This idea is theoretical, based only on how these chemicals behave, not on real studies. Even so, more hormone absorption could mean more nausea, breast tenderness, or headaches. If you have any questions, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything.
