First, the big one: European mandrake is genuinely toxic and we do not recommend taking it at all. Putting that aside, here is the theory behind this pairing. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids slow down how fast your gut moves. When food and pills sit in the gut longer, your body can sometimes absorb more of a drug than usual.

For nimodipine, which your body absorbs and uses directly (it is not a prodrug), that could mean a bit more of the drug ending up in your bloodstream. The realistic worry would be its blood-pressure-lowering effect getting stronger, leaving you dizzy, lightheaded, or flushed, with a faster heartbeat. This is only a theoretical, pharmacology-based concern, not something proven in studies. Still, please don't combine these, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Nimodipine Used For?

Brand names: Nimotop, Nymalize

Nimodipine — available as capsules and oral solution — is used to improve neurological outcomes after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding that occurs around the brain when an intracranial berry aneurysm ruptures. It works to reduce the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits (areas of the brain damaged by reduced blood flow) that can follow this kind of bleed.

This use applies across nimodipine capsules, nimodipine oral solution, and Nymalize oral solution. It is indicated for adult patients regardless of how severe their neurological condition is at the time treatment begins.
