Here's the good news on this one: Tinactin (tolnaftate) is a cream, powder, or spray you put right on your skin, not a pill you swallow. The interaction on file is about mandrake slowing down the gut and letting oral drugs soak in more. Since tolnaftate works locally on the skin and isn't really absorbed into your body in a meaningful way, this gut-slowing effect just doesn't apply to it.

So I wouldn't expect mandrake to change how well your tolnaftate clears up athlete's foot, jock itch, or ringworm. The far bigger concern is mandrake itself, which is genuinely poisonous and shouldn't be taken at all. Please don't use it, and if you have questions, your pharmacist is happy to help.

What Is Tolnaftate Used For?

Brand name: Tinactin

Tolnaftate treats common fungal skin infections — specifically athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis). It also helps relieve the itching, cracking, burning, scaling, redness, and soreness that come with these infections.

Several products also help prevent athlete's foot from coming back with regular daily use. Note that tolnaftate is not effective on the scalp or nails — though some patch products are applied around the nail and cuticle area to address skin surrounding the nail.
