Acalabrutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down acalabrutinib (Calquence). Lab studies suggest evodia may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, acalabrutinib could clear more slowly and build up in your blood, which can mean stronger effects and more side effects like easy bruising or bleeding, headache, infections, low blood counts, or an irregular heartbeat.

The important caveat: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube research, not anything seen in actual patients. Still, since acalabrutinib is a serious cancer drug, I'd play it safe. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Run evodia past your oncologist or pharmacist first so they can check it for you.

What Is Acalabrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Calquence

Calquence is used to treat adults with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) — either newly diagnosed (in combination with bendamustine and rituximab, for patients who are not candidates for a stem cell transplant) or previously treated (after at least one prior therapy). It is also used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

Both the capsule and tablet forms of Calquence are approved for all three of these uses. The specific combination regimen and treatment schedule depend on the condition being treated and what other medicines are used alongside it — your care team will map that out for you.
