Why this applies to Flibanserin

Flibanserin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Addyi (flibanserin): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear it out of your system. Lab studies suggest evodia may slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, less of the drug would get broken down, so more could pile up in your blood. With flibanserin, higher levels can mean more low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, and drowsiness, which is exactly why this medicine already carries warnings about those effects.

I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from real patients, so we don't truly know if it matters. Still, flibanserin is sensitive to CYP3A4 blockers, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Flibanserin Used For?

Brand name: Addyi

Addyi is approved to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — a condition where low sexual desire causes significant distress or relationship difficulty — in women under 65. "Acquired" means the low desire developed after a period of normal desire; "generalized" means it happens regardless of the situation or partner.

Addyi is not intended for use in men, and it is not a sexual performance enhancer. It is also not meant for HSDD that is caused by a medical condition, a psychiatric condition, relationship problems, or another medication.
