Nimodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version on mixing Evodia with nimodipine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear nimodipine out of your body. In test-tube studies, compounds in evodia appear to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, nimodipine could build up higher than expected, which might mean more of its blood-pressure-lowering effects, things like dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, headache, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This has only been seen in lab dishes, never confirmed in people, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a proven one. Since nimodipine is used in a serious setting after a brain bleed, don't add evodia without first checking with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Nimodipine Used For?

Nimodipine — available as capsules and oral solution — is used to improve neurological outcomes after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding that occurs around the brain when an intracranial berry aneurysm ruptures. It works to reduce the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits (areas of the brain damaged by reduced blood flow) that can follow this kind of bleed.

This use applies across nimodipine capsules, nimodipine oral solution, and Nymalize oral solution. It is indicated for adult patients regardless of how severe their neurological condition is at the time treatment begins.
