Evodia might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates through induction of CYP1A2.
Evodia extract and the evodia constituent rutaecarpine induce hepatic CYP1A2 enzyme activity. Evodia decreases levels of theophylline and caffeine, CYP1A2 substrates, by about 70% in animal models.

Here's the gist with warfarin and Evodia. Evodia, mainly its compound rutaecarpine, appears to speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Warfarin partly relies on that pathway, so in theory revving it up could clear some warfarin faster and weaken its blood-thinning effect. That could mean your INR drifts lower and your clot protection slips, which matters a lot when you're taking warfarin to prevent strokes or clots.

That said, this is based only on lab and animal studies, not real people, so I don't want to alarm you. Warfarin is a narrow-margin drug where small shifts count, so the safe move is simple: don't add Evodia without telling your pharmacist or doctor first, and if you already started it, ask about checking your INR.

Here's the situation with warfarin and evodia. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear warfarin out of your system. In test-tube studies, evodia appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body, more warfarin could stick around, which in theory could thin your blood a bit too much and raise your risk of bruising, nosebleeds, or harder-to-stop bleeding.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. So far it's only been seen in lab dishes, not in real people, so it's mostly theoretical. Still, warfarin is a narrow-margin medicine where small shifts matter and your INR is watched closely. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, taking evodia with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with warfarin: it's a blood thinner with a very narrow margin, so even small nudges in either direction can matter. Evodia contains a compound called rutaecarpine that, in lab dishes and animal studies, appears to slow down how platelets clump together. Platelets are a different part of the clotting process than warfarin works on, but stacking two things that both discourage clotting could add up to more of a thinning effect.

In real life that might show up as easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical and based only on test-tube and animal data, not human studies. Still, with warfarin I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
