Dexlansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the short version: in a lab dish (not in people), False Unicorn appears to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the helpers your body uses to break down dexlansoprazole. If that enzyme works slower, a bit more of the drug could linger in your system. In practice, that might mean slightly stronger or longer-lasting effects, with everyday side effects like headache, diarrhea, nausea, or stomach discomfort being a touch more likely.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube work, not from real patients, so the actual risk is uncertain and probably small. Dexlansoprazole is also a fairly forgiving medicine, not a narrow-window drug. Still, since False Unicorn itself isn't well studied, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
