Valsartan falls under Antihypertensive Drugs — the group Fenugreek interacts with.

Fenugreek may also have an additive effect on blood pressure-lowering medications. Studies on animals have shown that fenugreek seed can decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure by up to 22% when combined with metoprolol. Therefore, it is essential to monitor your blood pressure regularly if you are taking fenugreek and metoprolol together or any other antihypertensive drugs.

Here's the gist: fenugreek may have a mild blood pressure lowering effect of its own. Since valsartan (Diovan) is already working to relax your blood vessels and bring your numbers down, adding a fenugreek supplement could nudge your blood pressure a little lower than expected. If it drops too far, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when you stand up quickly.

I want to be straight with you though, this is rated a minor interaction and the evidence is on the weaker side, mostly from animal studies using a different blood pressure drug. The amount of fenugreek you'd get in cooking is very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated fenugreek capsules, just keep an eye on your blood pressure at home and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and to lower the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have reduced heart function. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (generic) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
