ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Butalbital, Caffeine
Aspirin, Butalbital, Caffeine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Forsythia interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
The piece of Fiorinal that matters here is the aspirin. Aspirin already thins your blood by keeping platelets from clumping together. In lab studies, forsythia seems to do something similar by blocking a chemical called platelet activating factor. Put the two together and, in theory, your blood could become a little slower to clot.
What that might look like in real life is easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. I want to be honest though: this is only based on test tube and animal research, the chance is rated unlikely, and food amounts are different from concentrated supplements. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you bleed easily.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Butalbital, Caffeine page
“The aspirin inside Fiorinal (aspirin, butalbital, caffeine) is the reason this list deserves careful reading rather than a quick skim. More than 200 of the supplements and herbs on file can thin the blood further and raise bleeding risk on top of aspirin's own antiplatelet effect, and even ordinary alcohol, beer and wine included, carr…”
