Why this applies to Canagliflozin

Canagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Galbanum interacts with.

Theoretically, taking galbanum with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In an animal diabetic model, galbanum resin reduces levels of fasting blood glucose at doses of 100 mg/kg, but not 400 mg/kg. This has not been shown in human research.

Here's the gist: galbanum is mostly a perfume and incense resin, and the only hint of a blood sugar effect comes from a single animal study where the resin lowered fasting glucose at one dose but not a higher one. That's very weak, theoretical evidence, and nothing has been shown in people.

The concern is simple addition. Canagliflozin (Invokana) already lowers your blood sugar by making you spill sugar into your urine, so if galbanum nudged it lower too, you could in theory drift toward hypoglycemia, things like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling faint. In practice this is unlikely from a fragrance, but if you plan to take concentrated galbanum supplements, mention it to your pharmacist and keep an eye on your readings.

Galbanum is an aromatic gum resin from a Ferula plant, used mostly in perfumes, incense, and traditional remedies. There is very little solid human research to support any medical use, so it is best thought of as a fragrance and folk remedy rather than a proven treatment. About Canagliflozin

What Is Canagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Invokana

Invokana (canagliflozin) is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes.

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Invokana is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to reduce the risk of serious kidney complications — including end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure — in those with diabetic kidney disease and high levels of protein in the urine.
