Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
THEOPHYLLINE
Why this applies to Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline
Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline falls under THEOPHYLLINE — the group Gossypol interacts with.
In vitro research shows that theophylline interferes with the ability of gossypol to decrease sperm motility.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about this combo: the concern isn't that your medicine gets stronger or weaker. It's the other way around. The theophylline part of your product may actually blunt what gossypol does. In early lab-dish studies, theophylline kept gossypol from slowing sperm movement the way it normally would. So if someone were relying on gossypol as a male contraceptive, that effect could be weakened.
I'll be honest with you, this is theoretical and based only on test-tube work, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Far more important: gossypol itself isn't a safe over-the-counter supplement and can cause serious harm, including possible permanent infertility and low potassium. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it at all.
