There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the concern with pairing gotu kola and aldesleukin (Proleukin). Aldesleukin is a powerful immune-boosting cancer treatment that can be hard on the liver, sometimes raising liver enzymes or affecting how well the liver works. Gotu kola has been linked to a handful of liver injury reports too. The worry is that stacking these two together could add up and put extra strain on your liver.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is mostly theoretical, based on only a few case reports, and we can't be sure gotu kola was truly to blame. Still, since aldesleukin is given for serious illness and is already monitored closely, it's smart to mention any supplement, including gotu kola, to your oncology team before using it.
