Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Amobarbital, Ephedrine Sulfate
Amobarbital, Ephedrine Sulfate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Gotu Kola interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that gotu kola may have sedative effects via binding of GABA receptors.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product pairs amobarbital, a barbiturate that calms the brain, with ephedrine, a stimulant. The piece worth watching here is the amobarbital. Gotu kola may add to the sedating side of this medicine. In lab studies, gotu kola seems to nudge the same calming GABA pathways that barbiturates act on, so stacking them could leave you feeling extra drowsy, foggy, unsteady, or slow to react.
I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave in the test tube, not on real cases in people. Still, with a strong sedative like amobarbital, I'd play it safe. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't stop anything on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Amobarbital, Ephedrine Sulfate page
“Ephedrine & Amytal pairs a barbiturate sedative, amobarbital, with the stimulant ephedrine, so the supplements that interact with it pull in two directions at once, and I would treat this list with genuine care. Ten of the 132 ingredients on file are rated major: alcohol and kava can deepen the sedation toward dangerously slowed breath…”
