Here's the simple version: eszopiclone (Lunesta) already works by calming brain activity to help you fall asleep. Gotu kola may have its own mild calming action, possibly by nudging the same GABA system in your brain that this sleep medicine targets. Stack the two together and they could add up, leaving you more drowsy than you bargained for.

In real life that might look like deeper grogginess, next-morning sleepiness, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling unsteady on your feet. I'll be honest with you though: this concern comes from lab research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a reasonable caution than a proven problem. Still, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Eszopiclone Used For?

Brand name: Lunesta

Eszopiclone tablets — sold under the brand name Lunesta and as generics — are indicated for the treatment of insomnia. In clinical studies, eszopiclone helped people fall asleep more quickly (reduced sleep latency) and stay asleep through the night (improved sleep maintenance).

Clinical trials supporting its effectiveness lasted up to 6 months in adults and up to 2 weeks in elderly patients. Lunesta and eszopiclone generics are approved for this same indication across the available tablet formulations.
