There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the simple version. Fostamatinib (Tavalisse) can sometimes be hard on the liver, so your doctor usually checks your liver enzymes with blood tests while you're on it. Gotu kola has been tied to a handful of liver problem reports, though it's not clear the herb was truly to blame. The concern is that pairing the two might add up to extra strain on the liver.

To be honest, this is mostly a theoretical, better-safe-than-sorry caution based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not a proven dangerous combo. Still, since both can touch the liver, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding gotu kola, and tell them right away if you notice yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness.

What Is Fostamatinib Used For?

Brand name: Tavalisse

Tavalisse (fostamatinib) is used to treat thrombocytopenia — dangerously low platelet counts — in adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). It is specifically for people whose platelet counts have not improved enough with at least one earlier ITP treatment.

The goal is to raise platelet counts high enough to reduce the risk of serious bleeding. If platelet counts do not respond sufficiently after 12 weeks, the medication is typically stopped.
