Here's the simple version: this combination pill (Meprozine or Mepergan) already pairs a strong opioid pain reliever, meperidine, with promethazine, an antihistamine that makes you drowsy. Both of those calm down your nervous system. Gotu kola may have a mild calming effect of its own, possibly by acting on GABA, a chemical that quiets brain activity.

Stacking them together could, in theory, make you more sedated than expected. Think extra sleepiness, dizziness, foggy thinking, or slowed breathing. I'll be honest though, this concern is based mostly on lab research, not real patient cases, so the evidence is thin. Still, since this medicine is already quite sedating, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding gotu kola.
