Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Phenacemide
Phenacemide falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Gotu Kola interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that gotu kola may have sedative effects via binding of GABA receptors.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Phenacemide (Phenurone) is an older anti-seizure medicine that already works on your nervous system and can leave you feeling drowsy, foggy, or low on energy. Gotu kola may have its own mild calming action, possibly by nudging the same GABA pathways in the brain. So if you pair the two, the worry is simply that the sedative effects could stack up, leaving you sleepier, dizzier, or less sharp than usual.
I want to be honest about the strength of this concern: it comes from lab-dish studies and the way these compounds behave, not from real patient reports. It is more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, with a drug as potent as phenacemide, I would check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding gotu kola.

About Gotu Kola
What is Gotu Kola?
- Wound healing
- Varicose veins and poor circulation
- Anxiety and stress
- Memory and mental clarity
- Skin health and scarring
Gotu kola is a traditional Ayurvedic and Asian herb that people use for wound healing, circulation, skin problems, and as a calming or memory-supporting herb. Some early studies suggest possible benefits for vein health and skin, but the overall evidence is limited and not strong. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver problems.

Phenacemide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Phenacemide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Gotu Kola — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
