Here's the gist: sodium valproate (Epilim) already has a calming effect on the brain, and it can make some people feel drowsy, foggy, or unsteady. Gotu kola may act in a similar way by nudging the same GABA system that helps quiet down brain activity. So if you take them together, the worry is that those sedating effects could stack up, leaving you more tired or sluggish than usual.

I'll be honest with you, this is a theoretical concern based mostly on lab research, not real-world reports, so it's not a reason to panic. Still, if you decide to try gotu kola, watch for extra drowsiness, and please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since both gotu kola and valproate can affect the liver.

There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the concern with pairing gotu kola and sodium valproate (Epilim). This isn't about one changing how the other is processed. Instead, it's that both can be hard on your liver. Valproate already carries a known risk of liver irritation and, rarely, more serious liver injury, so doctors often check liver blood tests when you start it. Gotu kola has a handful of case reports where people developed liver problems while taking it, though it was never proven to be the cause.

Put together, the worry is that the two could add up and stress your liver more than either alone. This is mostly theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal evidence, so don't panic. Still, watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, nausea, or unusual tiredness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
