Bosutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes by 21%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Bosutinib (Bosulif). Your body clears this leukemia medicine largely through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Higenamine has been shown, in test-tube studies only, to slow that same enzyme down a little (about 21%). If that effect happened in real people, bosutinib could build up to higher levels than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects, things like nausea, diarrhea, belly pain, low blood counts, or liver changes.

The honest truth is that this is theoretical. It hasn't been seen in humans, only in lab dishes, so the real-world risk is uncertain. Still, since bosutinib is a serious cancer drug and higenamine itself raises heart and blood pressure concerns, please run this combination by your oncologist or pharmacist before mixing them.

About Bosutinib

What Is Bosutinib Used For?

Brand name: Bosulif

Bosutinib is used to treat Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (Ph+ CML) — a type of blood cancer. It can be used for newly diagnosed patients or for those whose cancer has stopped responding to, or who cannot tolerate, a prior treatment.

Bosulif (the brand-name product) is approved for adults and children 1 year and older with chronic phase Ph+ CML, and for adults with accelerated phase or blast phase Ph+ CML that is resistant or intolerant to prior therapy. Generic bosutinib tablets are approved for adults only with the same range of disease phases.
