Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Auvelity is a combination of bupropion and dextromethorphan. Interestingly, the bupropion part is there partly to block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which keeps dextromethorphan levels higher in your body so it can work on the brain. Higenamine, based only on lab studies, may also block that same enzyme. So in theory, stacking it on top could nudge dextromethorphan levels even higher, possibly meaning more dizziness, drowsiness, or that floaty, lightheaded feeling.

This is purely test-tube data and hasn't been shown in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. My bigger concern is that higenamine acts like adrenaline on your heart, and bupropion can also raise heart rate and blood pressure. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes by 21%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Auvelity combines dextromethorphan and bupropion, and bupropion is actually there on purpose to slow down how fast dextromethorphan gets cleared, keeping more of it active. Higenamine adds a small twist here: lab studies suggest it can mildly block the CYP3A4 enzyme (by about 21% in a test tube). If that happened in your body, it could nudge the levels of this medication a bit higher, possibly bringing on more dizziness, nausea, jitteriness, a faster heartbeat, or trouble sleeping.

The honest part: this is only theoretical lab data and hasn't been shown in real people. What worries me more is that higenamine itself is a heart and blood pressure stimulant, and bupropion can also raise blood pressure. That stacking effect is the bigger concern. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
