Codeine, Papaverine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the wrinkle with this combo: codeine is a prodrug, meaning it doesn't do much on its own. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert codeine into morphine, which is what actually relieves pain. Higenamine appears to block that same enzyme, at least in lab dish studies. So in theory, less of your codeine would get turned into morphine, and you might notice weaker pain relief than expected.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based only on test-tube research and has not been shown in real people, so it may not matter much in practice. Still, since higenamine itself can stir up your heart rate and blood pressure, it's worth running this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
