Desvenlafaxine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the quick picture: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear desvenlafaxine (Pristiq). In a lab dish, higenamine slowed that enzyme down. If the same thing happened in people, desvenlafaxine could build up a bit and its effects could feel stronger, including possible nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, sweating, or a faster heartbeat and higher blood pressure.

What makes me extra cautious is that higenamine itself acts like adrenaline and can already raise heart rate and blood pressure, so stacking it with an SNRI is a double hit on your heart. The good news is this enzyme effect has only been seen in test tubes, not in real people, so it's theoretical. Still, please run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Desvenlafaxine extended-release tablets — sold under brand names including Pristiq, Desvenlafaxine ER, Desvenlafaxine Succinate, and others — are approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.

This medication is not approved for use in children or adolescents. Its effectiveness was studied in clinical trials of adult outpatients who met standard diagnostic criteria for MDD.
