Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes by 21%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version on pairing higenamine with mometasone (Elocon, Asmanex). Mometasone is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In a lab dish, higenamine slowed that enzyme down by about 21 percent. If that happened in real people, more mometasone could linger in the body, which in theory might mean stronger steroid effects.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is only test-tube data, and it has not been seen in actual patients. On top of that, mometasone cream and the Asmanex inhaler act mostly where you apply them, so very little reaches your bloodstream to begin with. The bigger reason to be careful is higenamine itself, which can raise heart rate and blood pressure. Please run any supplement past your pharmacist or doctor before combining.

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
