Colchicine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for colchicine: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear it out. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that were to happen in real life, colchicine could hang around longer and build up, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, stomach cramping, diarrhea, or muscle aches. Colchicine has a fairly narrow safety window, so I treat any potential buildup seriously.

The honest part: this is only seen in lab studies, not in people, so it's theoretical for now. Still, because colchicine can be touchy, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two rather than guessing.

About Colchicine

What Is Colchicine Used For?

Brand names: Colchicine, Colsalide Improved, Mitigare, Colcrys, Gloperba, Lodoco

Colchicine tablets and capsules are used to prevent gout flares in adults, and colchicine tablets are also used to treat acute gout flares when taken at the first sign of a flare. Colchicine tablets are additionally approved for familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) — a hereditary inflammatory condition — in adults and children 4 years and older.

Lodoco (colchicine tablet) is specifically indicated to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, coronary revascularization, and cardiovascular death in adults with established atherosclerotic disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors. Colchicine is not a pain reliever and should not be used for pain from other causes.
