Bupropion falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2B6 (CYP2B6) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2B6 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed leaf extract inhibits CYP2B6. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Wellbutrin/Zyban (bupropion). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2B6 to break bupropion down. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed appears to slow that same enzyme. If that happened in real life, bupropion could clear more slowly and build up, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like jitteriness, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, headache, or a faster heartbeat. The bigger concern is bupropion's known risk of lowering the seizure threshold, so higher levels could nudge that risk up.

The honest part: this is theoretical, seen only in lab dishes, never confirmed in people. I wouldn't panic, but I'd run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than guessing.

What Is Bupropion Used For?

Brand names: Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Zyban, Wellbutrin XL, Aplenzin, Forfivo XL

Bupropion is FDA-approved to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) — a form of clinical depression. Extended-release formulations (XL and hydrobromide versions, including Aplenzin) are also approved for the prevention of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), the pattern of depression that tends to arrive in autumn and winter.

Not all formulations share every indication. Aplenzin (bupropion hydrobromide extended-release) and bupropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets (XL) are indicated for both MDD and SAD. Bupropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets (SR) and bupropion hydrochloride immediate-release tablets are indicated for MDD only.
