Eliglustat falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Cerdelga (eliglustat). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed seemed to slow that same enzyme down. If that were to happen in real life, eliglustat could build up in your blood and lead to stronger effects and more side effects, like an irregular or fast heartbeat (this drug can affect the heart's rhythm), plus things like nausea, headache, dizziness, or stomach upset.

The honest truth is that this is theoretical, based only on lab work, not on people. Still, eliglustat is a drug where blood levels really matter, so I wouldn't combine them without checking first. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding this herb.

About Eliglustat

What Is Eliglustat Used For?

Brand name: Cerdelga

Cerdelga (eliglustat) is used for the long-term treatment of Gaucher disease type 1 in adults. Gaucher disease type 1 is a genetic condition in which a fatty substance called glucosylceramide builds up in organs like the liver, spleen, and bone marrow, causing them to enlarge and leading to problems like anemia and low platelet counts.

Cerdelga is only appropriate for adults whose bodies process the drug in a predictable way — specifically those identified as CYP2D6 extensive metabolizers (EMs), intermediate metabolizers (IMs), or poor metabolizers (PMs) by an FDA-cleared genetic test. People who are CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metabolizers may not reach drug levels high enough to benefit, and Cerdelga is not recommended for them.
