Risperidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear risperidone out of your system. In test tube studies, horny goat weed seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, risperidone could build up a bit more than expected, which might mean stronger sedation, dizziness, low blood pressure when standing, or muscle stiffness and restlessness.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, and it has never actually been shown in humans. So I wouldn't panic. Still, since risperidone affects the brain and heart, it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor before adding this herb, rather than just trying it on your own.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
