Humann Superbeets Heart Chews and Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan

These two interact in 4 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.

Why Are There 4 Interactions?

Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with whole categories of medication. Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan falls into 4 of those categories, so it can interact with Humann Superbeets Heart Chews in 4 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).

Minor

Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates

1 of 4

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan

Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan falls under Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP2D6 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's crucial to highlight that, as of now, there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the gist for your Coricidin II (acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, dextromethorphan): the grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews might slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant in this combo, is broken down by that enzyme. So in theory, if the enzyme is blocked, dextromethorphan could build up a bit and you might feel extra drowsy, dizzy, or, at higher levels, lightheaded or off-balance. Chlorpheniramine can add to that sleepy feeling too.

That said, I don't want to overstate this. The concern comes only from lab studies, with no real-world cases reported, so it's considered minor and unlikely. Still, if you notice unusual grogginess, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Minor

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

2 of 4

Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan also falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.
Severity Minor Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D

Here's the gist with this combo. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews may, at least in lab studies, gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant) in your Coricidin II is partly cleared by that pathway. In theory, if it clears a little slower, levels could nudge up, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or that foggy, lightheaded feeling.

That said, I want you to keep this in perspective. This is based on test-tube data only, with no real-world human reports of it actually happening, so it's rated minor and unlikely. For most folks it won't be a problem. Still, if you feel unusually sleepy or off, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

Minor

Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates

Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan also falls under Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates.

Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the gist with Coricidin II and these beet chews. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets has shown, only in lab dishes, a mild ability to slow down an enzyme called CYP2E1. Among the three ingredients in your cold medicine, acetaminophen is the one that partly uses that pathway. In theory, slowing it could leave a touch more acetaminophen hanging around, but this has never actually been seen happen in people.

So practically speaking, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger thing I'd watch is the drowsiness from chlorpheniramine, plus not doubling up on acetaminophen from other cold products. If you take acetaminophen regularly or have any liver concerns, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the gist with Coricidin's three ingredients (acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, and dextromethorphan) alongside SuperBeets chews. The grape seed extract in each serving may, in a test tube at least, slow down an enzyme called CYP2E1. Acetaminophen is partly handled by that pathway, so in theory blocking it could let a bit more linger in your system. None of these are prodrugs, so we're talking about slightly higher levels, not lost effect.

Honestly, this is very weak, lab-only evidence with no real reports in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger thing I'd watch is sticking to the acetaminophen dose on the box and not doubling up with other cold or pain products. Run it by your pharmacist if you take this combo often.

What These Ratings Mean

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.

Severity how clinically significant the interaction is
Major

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.

Moderate

Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan page

“Alcohol is the risk to understand first. It carries major ratings alongside the acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, and dextromethorphan combination sold as Coricidin II Extra Strength Cold and Flu, because acetaminophen already taxes the liver, and heavy drinking on top of it raises the chance of genuine liver injury.”
