These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with whole categories of medication. Acetaminophen, Codeine falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Humann Superbeets Heart Chews in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
1 of 3Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Codeine
Acetaminophen, Codeine falls under Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's a little wrinkle worth knowing. Codeine is actually a prodrug, meaning it doesn't do much on its own. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert codeine into morphine, which is what actually relieves your pain. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews might block that same enzyme a little, based on lab dish studies.
So if anything, blocking CYP2D6 would mean less codeine turning into morphine, so you could get weaker pain relief rather than more side effects. That said, this is purely theoretical, there are no real human reports of it happening, and the amount in these chews is small. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but if your pain meds suddenly aren't working as well, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
2 of 3Acetaminophen, Codeine also falls under Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist for your Tylenol with Codeine. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews may slightly slow down an enzyme called CYP2E1 in lab tests. That enzyme handles a small part of how your body processes the acetaminophen (Tylenol) portion. In theory, if it's blocked, you could end up with a touch more acetaminophen hanging around than usual.
I want to be straight with you, though: this concern is based only on test-tube studies, and there's no real-world report of it actually causing problems in people. The amount in two chews is small, and the rating here is minor and unlikely. The codeine side isn't really affected by this pathway. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's always smart to check with your pharmacist if you take these regularly.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
3 of 3Acetaminophen, Codeine also falls under Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist for your Tylenol with Codeine. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews may, in lab tests, gently slow an enzyme called CYP2E1. That enzyme helps process the acetaminophen (Tylenol) part. In theory, slowing it could let acetaminophen hang around a bit longer. Honestly, though, this is one of those interactions that looks possible on paper but has never actually been documented in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
One small comfort: CYP2E1 is also the pathway that turns acetaminophen into the byproduct that can stress the liver, so a mild slowdown isn't likely to spell trouble at normal doses. The codeine side runs through a different enzyme and isn't really involved here. Just keep your daily acetaminophen within limits, and check with your pharmacist if you have any liver concerns.
