Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Here's the short version on taking SuperBeets Heart Chews alongside your Lunesta (eszopiclone). The chews contain a small amount of grape seed extract (about 150mg per serving), and in lab dishes that ingredient has shown a mild ability to slow down CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear eszopiclone from your body. In theory, if that enzyme is slowed, eszopiclone could hang around a bit longer and feel stronger, meaning more next-morning grogginess, dizziness, or that lingering bitter taste some people notice.

The good news: this is rated a minor, unlikely interaction, and it has never actually been reported in people, only suggested in test-tube studies. For most folks it won't be a real problem. Still, since eszopiclone already makes you drowsy, mention this combo to your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you feel extra sleepy or foggy after starting the chews.

Eszopiclone tablets — sold under the brand name Lunesta and as generics — are indicated for the treatment of insomnia. In clinical studies, eszopiclone helped people fall asleep more quickly (reduced sleep latency) and stay asleep through the night (improved sleep maintenance).

Clinical trials supporting its effectiveness lasted up to 6 months in adults and up to 2 weeks in elderly patients. Lunesta and eszopiclone generics are approved for this same indication across the available tablet formulations.
