Fenfluramine falls under Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP2D6 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's crucial to highlight that, as of now, there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the gist for your child's seizure medicine. Fenfluramine is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. The grape seed extract in these beet chews (about 150mg per two chews) has shown some ability to slow that same enzyme down, but only in lab dish studies, not in real people. In theory, if it slowed CYP2D6, fenfluramine could build up a little and you might see more of its usual effects, like reduced appetite, tiredness, or changes in mood or energy.

Honestly, this is a very weak, mostly theoretical concern, rated minor and unlikely. Still, fenfluramine needs careful heart and dosing oversight, so I wouldn't add any new supplement without first checking with your neurologist or pharmacist.

What Is Fenfluramine Used For?

Brand name: Pondimin

Fintepla (fenfluramine oral solution) is approved to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients 2 years of age and older. It is used alongside other antiseizure medications.

Both conditions are severe, often hard-to-control forms of epilepsy that typically begin in childhood. Fintepla is available only through a restricted program called the Fintepla REMS because of serious heart-related risks.
