Lomitapide falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the gist with these chews and your lomitapide (Juxtapid). Lomitapide is heavily processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets (about 150mg per serving) has shown some ability to slow that same enzyme down, but only in lab dish studies, not in actual people. In theory, slowing CYP3A4 could let lomitapide build up a bit, and since this drug already carries warnings about liver effects and stomach side effects (think nausea, diarrhea, cramping, and rising liver enzymes), higher levels are something we'd rather not gamble with.

That said, the real-world likelihood here is low and this is based on weak, theoretical evidence. Lomitapide is a tightly managed, high-stakes medication, so before adding these chews, please run it by your pharmacist or prescriber first.

About Lomitapide

What Is Lomitapide Used For?

Brand name: Juxtapid

Juxtapid (lomitapide) is used alongside a low-fat diet and other cholesterol-lowering treatments — including LDL apheresis (a procedure that filters LDL from the blood) where available — to lower LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and non-HDL cholesterol in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH). HoFH is a rare, inherited condition that causes extremely high LDL cholesterol levels from birth.

Juxtapid is approved for use in adults and in children aged 2 years and older with HoFH. It has not been proven safe or effective for other types of high cholesterol, including the more common heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH). Its effect on heart attacks, strokes, or other cardiovascular events has not been established.
