Moxifloxacin falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Iboga interacts with.

Theoretically, iboga may have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval.
Numerous case reports suggest that ibogaine, a constituent in iboga, can cause QT interval prolongation.

Here's the concern with these two together. Moxifloxacin is well known for stretching out the heart's electrical recovery time, something doctors call QT prolongation. Iboga, through its main compound ibogaine, has been linked in case reports to the very same effect. Stack them and the risk can add up, which in rare cases can trigger a dangerous, fast heart rhythm that may cause fainting, palpitations, or worse.

To be fair, this is graded as anecdotal evidence, so it's more of a theoretical caution than something proven to happen often. Even so, Iboga carries serious heart risks on its own and isn't something I'd recommend, especially alongside an antibiotic like moxifloxacin. Please run any combination like this by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Iboga is a Central African shrub whose root bark contains ibogaine, a powerful hallucinogenic compound studied mainly for addiction. It carries serious safety risks, including dangerous heart rhythm changes and deaths, and ibogaine is illegal in the United States and many other countries. We do not recommend its use outside of tightly controlled research settings.

About Moxifloxacin

What Is Moxifloxacin Used For?

Brand name: Avelox

Moxifloxacin tablets and intravenous (IV) injection are approved for adults 18 and older to treat bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, uncomplicated and complicated skin infections, complicated abdominal infections, plague, acute bacterial sinusitis, and acute bacterial flare-ups of chronic bronchitis. Note: moxifloxacin should only be used for sinusitis and chronic bronchitis flare-ups when no other antibiotic option is available, due to the risk of serious side effects.

Moxifloxacin ophthalmic solution (eye drops) — including the brand Vigamox — is a separate, topical formulation used only in the eye to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) caused by susceptible bacteria. The eye drop form is not used for body-wide infections.
