Indian Long Pepper + Ampicillin
Ampicillin brand names: Principen, Omnipen-N, Omnipen, Rimacillin, Penbritin.
We found no known interaction between Indian Long Pepper and Ampicillin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Indian Long Pepper and Ampicillin
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Ampicillin and Indian Long Pepper in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Ampicillin
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Ampicillin is filed under 3 classifications — antibiotic drugs, seizure threshold lowering drugs, oral drugs. Indian Long Pepper has documented interactions with 14 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate), antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and cyclosporine (neoral, sandimmune) (moderate) — and none of Ampicillin’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Indian Long Pepper Does Interact With Other Medications
Indian Long Pepper has 893 moderate, 3 minor known drug interactions in our database — Ampicillin isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Questions About Indian Long Pepper or Ampicillin
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. See Every Supplement That Interacts With Ampicillin
This page covers Indian Long Pepper only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Ampicillin page lists 50 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Bacillus Coagulans (moderate), Bacillus Subtilis (moderate), Bifidobacterium Animalis Subsp. Lactis (moderate) and Bifidobacterium Bifidum (moderate).
By severity: 1 major · 39 moderate · 10 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ampicillin page
“An antibiotic only works if enough of it survives the trip through your gut, and that is where ampicillin (Principen, Penbritin) meets real trouble with one supplement in particular. Activated charcoal, the single major-rated entry among the 50 on this page, binds drugs in the digestive tract and can sharply cut how much ampicillin you…”

Indian long pepper (pippali) is a spice long used in Ayurvedic medicine and is best known for its piperine content, which may increase how well the body absorbs certain other substances. Modern human research on its health benefits is limited, so use it cautiously and let your pharmacist or doctor know if you take it regularly.

Brand names: Principen, Omnipen-N, Omnipen, Rimacillin, Penbritin
Ampicillin treats bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. It is used for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections (including typhoid fever and dysentery), bacterial meningitis (infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord), and serious bloodstream infections such as septicemia and endocarditis (infection of the heart's inner lining).

The injectable forms (intramuscular or intravenous) are reserved for moderately severe to severe infections or for patients who cannot take oral medication.
