Doxazosin Mesylate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Java Tea interacts with.

Some preliminary clinical evidence suggests that Java tea has antihypertensive effects. Further, animal research suggests that Java tea has diuretic properties. Theoretically, taking Java tea with other antihypertensive drugs might increase the effects and risk for hypotension with these drugs.

Here's the gist: doxazosin already lowers your blood pressure and can pull more fluid out through your kidneys isn't its job, but Java Tea acts as a mild diuretic and may nudge blood pressure down a bit on its own. Stack the two together and you could lower your pressure more than you bargained for.

With doxazosin, the side effect to watch is dizziness or lightheadedness, especially the "head rush" you feel standing up quickly (called orthostatic hypotension). That first-dose drop is well known with this drug. Adding a diuretic herb could make that feeling stronger. Keep in mind this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these things work rather than strong human studies. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your doxazosin on your own.

About Doxazosin

What Is Doxazosin Used For?

Brand name: Cardura

Doxazosin tablets (Cardura, Doxazosin, Doxazosin mesylate) are approved to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate that causes urinary problems — and to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Doxazosin tablets may be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Cardura XL (the extended-release tablet) is approved only for BPH symptoms. Cardura XL is not approved for high blood pressure.
