Here's the simple version. Vigabatrin (Sabril) is a seizure medicine that calms electrical activity in the brain, and one of its common effects is making people feel tired, sleepy, or foggy. L-tryptophan can also bring on drowsiness and fatigue on its own. Put the two together and those sleepy, sluggish feelings can stack up and hit harder than either one alone.

This isn't about the supplement changing how your body breaks down vigabatrin. It's simply two things pulling in the same direction toward sedation. You might notice extra grogginess, dizziness, or trouble staying alert, which matters more if you drive or operate machinery. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and never adjust your seizure medicine on your own.

About Vigabatrin

What Is Vigabatrin Used For?

Brand name: Sabril

Vigabatrin is used to treat two types of seizure conditions. For refractory complex partial seizures (seizures that have not responded well to other treatments), vigabatrin oral solution and tablets are used as an add-on therapy in patients 2 years of age and older — it is not a first-line treatment. Sabril, Vigadrone, and vigabatrin-branded products carry this indication.

For infantile spasms — a specific type of seizure disorder in very young children — vigabatrin oral solution is used as a standalone (monotherapy) treatment in infants 1 month to 2 years of age. Vigafyde oral solution is indicated specifically for infantile spasms monotherapy in this same age group. In all cases, treatment is only appropriate when the potential benefits outweigh the risk of permanent vision loss.
