Theoretically, taking Latilactobacillus sakei with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. sakei.
Latilactobacillus sakei preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. sakei preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the simple version: Rifapentine is an antibiotic, and Latilactobacillus sakei is a live probiotic. Since rifapentine's whole job is to kill bacteria that cause TB, it can also kill off the friendly bacteria in your probiotic. That doesn't hurt you, but it can make the probiotic less effective, so you may not get much benefit from it while you're on treatment.

Good news: this won't change how well rifapentine fights your TB, and it won't make rifapentine cause more side effects. To give the probiotic a fair shot, just space them out, ideally by at least two hours. This is based on how these products work rather than strong studies, so it's a mild concern. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

About Rifapentine

What Is Rifapentine Used For?

Brand name: Priftin

Rifapentine tablets — sold as Priftin and as rifapentine tablets — are used to treat two forms of tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. For active pulmonary TB (a live TB infection in the lungs), it is approved for adults and children 12 years and older. It must always be combined with other anti-TB drugs — never taken alone.

For latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) — where TB bacteria are in the body but not yet causing illness — it is approved for adults and children 2 years and older who are at high risk of the infection becoming active. For LTBI, it is always taken together with isoniazid, once weekly for 12 weeks. Active TB disease must be ruled out before starting LTBI treatment.
