Temsirolimus falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Mace interacts with.

Animal research suggests that mace lignans can suppress immune function. Theoretically, concomitant use might enhance the effects of immunosuppressant drugs. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the gist with temsirolimus (Torisel). This drug already calms down the immune system as part of how it fights kidney cancer. In animal studies, certain compounds in mace appeared to dampen immune function too. So the theory is that piling mace on top of temsirolimus could push the immune-lowering effect a bit further, which might raise your chance of infections or make the drug's usual side effects feel stronger.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based on lab and animal work, not real-world cases in people. Using mace as a cooking spice is very unlikely to cause trouble. The concern is more about concentrated mace supplements. While you're on temsirolimus, please run any mace supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

Mace is the lacy red covering of the nutmeg seed and comes from the same tree as nutmeg.
