Meloxicam falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Marshmallow interacts with.

Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: marshmallow root is loaded with a slippery fiber called mucilage that forms a gel in your gut. The concern is that this gel could coat things and slow down how much meloxicam your body soaks up. If less gets absorbed, your meloxicam might not control your arthritis pain, tenderness, and stiffness as well as it should.

I want to be honest that this is only a theoretical worry based on how mucilage behaves, not something proven in real patients, and it's rated as minor. An easy fix covers it: take your meloxicam first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before your marshmallow. If you have questions, your pharmacist or doctor is happy to help.

Marshmallow root is a traditional herb rich in soothing, gel-like fibers called mucilage, which is why it has long been used for coughs, sore throats, and stomach irritation. Evidence for these uses is mostly traditional and preliminary, but it is generally considered gentle and well-tolerated for short-term use. As with any supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines.

About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
