Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for erythromycin (E.E.S.). Your gut uses a tiny pump called P-glycoprotein to push some drugs back out, which limits how much gets absorbed. In lab dish studies, certain methoxylated flavones from citrus peel (like nobiletin and tangeretin) seem to slow that pump down. In theory, that could let a bit more erythromycin slip into your bloodstream, nudging levels up.
If that happened, you might notice more of erythromycin's usual side effects, mainly stomach cramping, nausea, or diarrhea. The catch is that this is only a theoretical, test-tube idea, and the small amounts in food aren't likely to matter. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. If you're considering one, it's worth a quick check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), Pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline (Slo-bid, Theo-Dur, others), zileuton (Zyflo), Zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the gist for erythromycin (E.E.S.): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this antibiotic. Some methoxylated flavones from citrus peel may slow that same enzyme down in lab dishes. If that happened in your body, erythromycin could linger longer and build up a bit, which might nudge up its usual side effects like stomach cramping, nausea, or diarrhea. At higher levels there's also a known concern with erythromycin affecting heart rhythm (a QT effect).
That said, this is only seen in test-tube studies, not in real people, and it doesn't happen with every flavone. A little citrus in your diet is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark, so just run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
