Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Metoclopramide Hydrochloride
Metoclopramide Hydrochloride falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Motherwort interacts with.
Motherwort has been reported to cause CNS depression and sedation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Metoclopramide already tends to make some people feel drowsy, tired, or a little foggy. Motherwort has been reported to cause a calming, sedating effect of its own. So the concern with using them together is mostly about added sleepiness, you could feel more groggy, slowed down, or low-energy than you would with either one alone.
I want to be honest that this is a theoretical caution based on how each one works, not strong human studies, so it may not happen to you at all. Still, it's worth being careful, especially if you drive or need to stay alert. If you'd like to try motherwort, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can look at your full medication list.
