Here's the simple version: doxepin already has a calming, sleepy effect, which is exactly why it's used for insomnia. Motherwort has been reported to add its own mild sedating effect on top of that. Put the two together and the worry is that the drowsiness could stack up, leaving you more groggy than expected, with things like deeper next-morning sleepiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy and unsteady on your feet.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's a theoretical concern based on how each acts, not on solid human studies, so it may not amount to much for many people. Still, since both calm the brain, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you take doxepin at bedtime.
