Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

The product you're asking about, Combunox, combines ibuprofen (an NSAID pain reliever) with oxycodone (an opioid). The piece that matters here is the ibuprofen. Like other NSAIDs, ibuprofen already makes your platelets a little less sticky and can irritate the stomach lining, so it carries some bleeding risk on its own.

The concern with parsley is that lab and animal studies hint it may also slow platelets down. Stack that on top of ibuprofen and, in theory, you could see more bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset. I'll be honest though, this is weak evidence, and normal food amounts of parsley in your cooking are very unlikely to matter. Concentrated parsley supplements, extracts, or oil are a different story. If you use those regularly, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Parsley

What is Parsley?

Parsley
  • Water retention and bloating
  • Urinary and bladder support
  • Digestive upset
  • Freshening breath
  • Source of vitamins and antioxidants

Parsley is a popular culinary herb that is safe to eat in normal food amounts and is a good source of vitamins K and C. It is traditionally used as a diuretic and for digestion, but solid human evidence for medicinal benefits is limited. Concentrated supplements, seed extracts, and the essential oil are much stronger than food and should be used cautiously, especially during pregnancy.
