Here's the simple version: peyote (through its active compound mescaline) revs up your brain and nervous system, and so does caffeine. Stack a stimulant like caffeine on top of a powerful psychedelic and you're essentially pressing two gas pedals at once. The worry isn't really about how your body breaks either one down. It's that their stimulant effects can pile up.

That means a higher chance of a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, high blood pressure, trouble sleeping, and feeling anxious or panicky. This combination is graded as a major concern, though the evidence is theoretical and based on how these substances work rather than hard studies. Keep in mind peyote is a controlled substance and isn't a safe self-treatment. If you have real questions here, please talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
