Here's the simple version: both peyote (through its active compound, mescaline) and your amphetamine medication rev up the same systems in your brain and body, especially serotonin signaling and the general 'fight or flight' stimulant response. Amphetamine isn't a prodrug here; it's already active, so we're really talking about two stimulating substances stacking on top of each other.

When you combine them, the worry is an additive boost in effects like a racing or pounding heart, high blood pressure, anxiety, agitation, trouble sleeping, overheating, and in a worst case, too much serotonin activity. I'll be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not strong human studies, but the potential downside is serious. Please don't mix them without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
