Theoretically, phellodendron might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Phellodendron contains berberine. In vitro and in vivo research suggest that berberine can inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, phellodendron might also inhibit platelet aggregation.

Here's the simple version: dabigatran (Pradaxa) is already a blood thinner, and Phellodendron contains berberine, a plant compound that may make your platelets a little less sticky. Stack those two together and, at least in theory, you could lean more toward bleeding. Think easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or in rarer cases something more serious like blood in your urine or stool.

Now, the honest part: this concern comes mostly from lab and animal studies, not real patients, so the risk is more theoretical than proven. Still, since dabigatran is a drug where bleeding is already the main worry, I wouldn't add Phellodendron on your own. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first before combining them.

Phellodendron is a traditional Chinese medicine bark (Huang Bai) that contains berberine and other plant compounds with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity in lab studies. Human evidence for most uses is limited, and it is often sold in combination with other herbs, making its individual effects hard to judge. What Is Dabigatran Used For?

Brand names: Pradaxa, Pradax

Dabigatran etexilate capsules are approved for adults to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism (blood clots traveling through the body) in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem). Capsules are also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT — a blood clot in a deep vein, usually the leg) and pulmonary embolism (PE — a clot in the lungs), to prevent those clots from coming back, and to prevent DVT and PE in adults who have had hip replacement surgery.

For children, the capsule form is approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism — blood clots in veins) and reducing recurrence in patients aged 8 to under 18. Pradaxa Oral Pellets are approved specifically for children aged 3 months to under 12 years for the same treatment and recurrence-prevention purposes.
