Rucaparib Camsylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Phellodendron interacts with.

Theoretically, phellodendron might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Phellodendron contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence show that berberine can inhibit CYP2D6. Theoretically, phellodendron might also inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the basic idea: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear rucaparib (Rubraca). The berberine in Phellodendron can slow that same enzyme down. If it's working slower, rucaparib could build up a bit more in your bloodstream than expected, which may bump up its side effects like nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or liver enzyme changes.

I'll be honest with you, though, this concern is theoretical, based on lab work and how these compounds behave, not on real-world cases with this drug. Still, because rucaparib is a serious cancer medicine, I wouldn't add an herbal supplement on your own. Please run Phellodendron past your oncologist or pharmacist first so they can weigh in for your situation.

About Rucaparib

What Is Rucaparib Used For?

Brand name: Rubraca

Rubraca (rucaparib) is used for two types of cancer in adults who carry a harmful BRCA gene mutation (either inherited or found in the tumor). First, it is used as maintenance treatment — meaning ongoing treatment to keep cancer from coming back — in people with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer who responded (fully or partially) to platinum-based chemotherapy.

Second, Rubraca treats metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone-lowering treatment) in adults who have already received androgen receptor-directed therapy. Patients must be tested with an FDA-approved companion diagnostic to confirm the BRCA mutation before starting Rubraca for prostate cancer.
