Here's the gist with prochlorperazine (Compazine) and poria mushroom. Prochlorperazine has some anticholinergic activity, meaning part of how it works involves dampening a body chemical called acetylcholine. In animal studies, poria mushroom oil pushed in the opposite direction by raising acetylcholine levels a bit. So in theory, poria might blunt some of prochlorperazine's effects.

I want to be honest: this is purely theoretical and has never been shown in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Prochlorperazine isn't a prodrug, so nothing flips here. If you ever notice your nausea control slipping, just loop in your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

Poria mushroom (Fu Ling) is a fungus long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly as a mild diuretic and digestive and calming aid. Modern scientific evidence in humans is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven. It is generally considered well tolerated, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.

What Is Prochlorperazine Used For?

Brand names: Prochlor, Compazine

Prochlorperazine is used across several forms and products to control severe nausea and vomiting in adults. It is also used to treat schizophrenia. Prochlorperazine tablets (Prochlorperazine, Prochlorperazine Maleate) are additionally approved for the short-term treatment of generalized non-psychotic anxiety — though they are not the first-choice treatment for anxiety, given their risk profile.

Compro rectal suppositories and Prochlorperazine rectal suppositories are specifically indicated for controlling severe nausea and vomiting in adults. Prochlorperazine Edisylate injection is approved for severe nausea and vomiting and for schizophrenia, but it is not approved for dementia-related psychosis.
