Quercetin + Progesterone
Progesterone brand name: Milprosa.
Quercetin has a moderate interaction with Progesterone. Theoretically, concomitant use might alter the effects and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Progesterone
Progesterone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of a single dose of cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), a substrate of CYP3A4. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar) and quetiapine (Seroquel), substrates of CYP3A4. Other laboratory research also shows that quercetin inhibits CYP3A4. However, one clinical study shows that quercetin can increase the metabolism of midazolam, a substrate of CYP3A4, and decrease serum concentrations of midazolam by about 24% in some healthy individuals, suggesting possible induction of CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your body clears progesterone largely through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and quercetin can nudge that enzyme. The tricky part is that quercetin has pushed in both directions in studies. In some lab and small human research it slows CYP3A4 down, which could let progesterone build up a bit and bring on more of its usual effects like drowsiness, dizziness, breast tenderness, or bloating. In one human study it actually sped the enzyme up, which could lower progesterone levels instead.
Honestly, this is mostly theoretical and based on weak evidence, so I wouldn't lose sleep over the quercetin you get from foods like onions, apples, or tea. If you're considering high-dose quercetin capsules alongside your progesterone, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Progesterone page
“Many people take progesterone (Milprosa) to support a pregnancy during fertility treatment or as part of hormone therapy, which is exactly when St. John's wort for mood or a morning glass of grapefruit juice can feel harmless.”

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Progesterone
What Is Progesterone Used For?
Brand name: Milprosa
Progesterone capsules (including Prometrium) are used to prevent endometrial hyperplasia (abnormal thickening of the uterine lining) in postmenopausal women with a uterus who are taking estrogen, and to treat secondary amenorrhea (missed periods not caused by pregnancy).
Progesterone injection is indicated for amenorrhea and abnormal uterine bleeding caused by a hormonal imbalance. Crinone vaginal gel is used as part of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) for progesterone supplementation or replacement, and Crinone 4% is also indicated for secondary amenorrhea. Vaginal inserts — including Endometrin and other progesterone vaginal insert products — are used to support embryo implantation and early pregnancy as part of an ART treatment program for infertile women.
